Global Read Aloud
The Global Read Aloud is an online, global conversation about books that have been read aloud in the classroom (or home) created by author Pernille Ripp. It occurs for 6 weeks every year in october-November. The teacher can decide how often to participate and which book (there are several a year) to read. Check out their Pinterest page, Facebook page or website for more information!

What?Global Read Aloud allows you to read a novel to your class at the same time many other teachers are around the world. As a result, the ensuing conversations are not limited to your classroom-you can chat with classes around the world via Skype, Twitter and Edmodo (or another tool of your choice)!
|
Who?Over 1 million students have participated so far! There are a range of books you can choose to read from and as a result, participants range in age from Kindergarten through college.
|
Why?Although our classrooms are diverse in many ways, the group of students we have is still limited-they live in the same area, are the same age and attend the same school, and as a result, classroom conversations only go so far. With global read aloud, we exponentially increase the voices heard and our students have the opportunity to learn how others are thinking through the same book who carry an entirely different set of lived experiences.
